I Tengu 天狗 sono orgogliose, vendicative e iraconde creature del folklore nipponico, tra yōkai e Kami!
Sono rappresentati spesso come uomini-uccello, hanno un lungo naso che possono allungare a piacimento, depongono le uova, hanno ali in testa e spesso sono raffigurati con capelli rosso vermiglio.
Generalmente vivono nelle foreste e ne esistono di due tipi: i Karasu Tengu, maligni, meno potenti e più simili a uccelli, e i Yamabushi Tengu, potenti maghi dalle fattezze più umane. A capo dei Tengu c'è Sōjōbō, sovrano dei loro regni che vive sul monte Kurama.
Il mito dei Tengu nacque in Cina e probabilmente arrivò in Giappone con i monaci buddisti intorno al VII secolo fondendosi con creature e mitologie dello shintoismo.
I Tengu sono dispettosi e capricciosi, amano fare scherzi, hanno poteri sovrannaturali e si divertono anche a prendere le sembianze di uomini o animali.
Anticamente si ritenevano la causa di scomparse di bambini o altri eventi apparentemente inspiegabili. Gli abitanti dei villaggi lasciavano loro delle offerte di cibo per cercare di placarli e ingraziarseli.
I Tengu sono ancora oggi una figura mitica diffusa in tutto il Giappone e fanno capolino anche in videogiochi, manga e vari romanzi!

The Tengu 天狗 are proud, vengeful and wrathful creatures of Japanese folklore, between yōkai and Kami!
They are often depicted as bird-men, have a long nose that they can elongate at will, lay eggs, have wings on their heads and are often depicted with vermilion red hair.
They generally live in the forests and there are two types: the Karasu Tengu, malevolent, less powerful and more bird-like, and the Yamabushi Tengu, powerful wizards with more human features. At the head of the Tengu there is Sōjōbō, ruler of their kingdoms who lives on Mount Kurama.
The myth of the Tengu originated in China and probably reached Japan with Buddhist monks around the 7th century, merging with creatures and mythologies from Shintoism.
The Tengu are mischievous and capricious, love to play pranks, have supernatural powers and even enjoy taking the form of humans or animals.
In ancient times, they were believed to be the cause of child disappearances or other seemingly inexplicable events. Villagers would offer them some food in order to try to appease them and ingratiate them.
To this day, the Tengu are still a widespread mythical figure throughout Japan and also pop up in video games, manga and various novels! ????????❤️
