ITA Vi sarà certamente capitato di notare che nella scuole giapponesi è uso comune che gli studenti indossino una divisa, la seifuku 制服.

In particolare l'uniforme maschile viene chiamata gakuran 学ラン, mentre quella femminile sērāfuku セーラー服 (Sailor fuku). Comunque in alcuni istituti anche le studentesse indossano una particolare verisone della gakuran.

Il termine Gakuran è composto dai kanji di "studio" 学 e l'abbreviazione di "Olanda" ラン, indicando per estensione l'intero occidente.

L'uso della gakuran si diffuse con la restaurazione Meiji in ambito militare, soppiantando poi anche l'uso dell'hakama tradizionale.

Il colore della gakuran è generalmente nero o blu, ha un colletto alla coreana e bottoni con lo stemma della scuola. In passato si indossava anche il berretto ma con il tempo il suo uso è andato scomparendo. I pantaloni sono in genere lineari e monocromatici e le scarpe indossate sono mocassini o semplici scarpe da ginnastica.

La divisa femminile è caratterizzata invece da uno stile marinaro, con una blusa con collare marinaro e gonna con decoro in tartan o unico fondo.

Sia la gakuran che la sērāfuku hanno sia una versione estiva che invernale.

Gli studenti più trasgressivi tendono a personalizzare la divisa, cercando di sovvertire le regole dell'istituto magari sbottonando il colletto o la divisa, o ancora non indossando la cravatta.

Allo stesso modo le ragazze spesso accorciano la gonna o portano i calzini allentati.

Entrambe le seifuku hanno avuto un forte impatto nella cultura pop giapponese. Sono infatti innumerevoli i personaggi di anime e manga che la indossano!

You may have noticed that in Japanese schools it is common for students to wear a uniform, the seifuku 制服.

Specifically, the male uniform is called gakuran 学ラン, while the female uniform is called sērāfuku セーラー服 (Sailor fuku). However in some institutes the female students wear a particolar version of the Gakuran too.

The term Gakuran is composed of the kanji for 'study' 学 and the abbreviation for 'Holland' ラン, indicating by extension the entire West.

The use of the gakuran became widespread with the Meiji Restoration in the military, later supplanting the use of the traditional hakama.

The colour of the gakuran is generally black or blue, it has a Korean-style collar and buttons with the school's coat of arms. In the past, a cap was also worn, but over time its use has disappeared. The trousers are usually linear and monochrome and the shoes worn are moccasins or simple trainers.

The women's uniform, on the other hand, is characterised by a navy style, with a blouse with a navy collar and a skirt with a tartan or single-bottom decoration.

Both the gakuran and the sērāfuku have both a summer and a winter version.

The more transgressive students tend to personalise the uniform, trying to subvert the rules of the institution by perhaps unbuttoning the collar or uniform, or not wearing a tie.

Similarly, girls often shorten their skirts or wear loose socks.

Both seifuku have had a strong impact in Japanese pop culture. In fact, there are countless anime and manga characters who wear it!
