ITA Ōkunoshima 大久野島 è una piccola isola che si trova nella prefettura di Hiroshima. È famosa per la numerosa presenza di conigli, è infatti chiamata anche Usagishimaうさぎ島.

Anticamente era stata un'isola intensivamente coltivata ma durante la guerra russo-giapponese vennero eretti vari forti per proteggerla. I conigli furono introdotti dai giapponesi nell'isola nel '900.

Infatti tra gli anni '20 e '40, l'isola fu sede di una fabbrica segreta di sperimentazione per armi chimiche e i roditori venivano usati come cavie.

Oggi di quella fabbrica è rimasto solo un museo dedicato e i conigli attualmente presenti sono una nuova colonia che vive libera e coccolata dai turisti! È inoltre vietato l'accesso all'isola a cani e gatti! ❤️

Ōkunoshima 大久野島 is a small island located in Hiroshima Prefecture. It is famous for the numerous presence of rabbits, it is in fact also called Usagishimaうさぎ島. In the past it had been an intensively cultivated island but during the Russo-Japanese war several forts were erected in order to protect it. Rabbits were introduced to the island by the Japanese in the 1900s. In fact, between the 1920s and 1940s, the island was home to a secret chemical weapons testing factory and rodents were used as guinea pigs.

Today, all that remains of that factory is a dedicated museum, and the rabbits currently there are a new colony living free and pampered by tourists! Dogs and cats are also banned from entering the island! ❤️
