This episode's theme: Italian swear words («parolacce»).
In Italy you hear swear words everywhere: at the bar, in the street, in films. Is that person angry, or just complaining about their day?
In simple Italian we will talk about why Italians swear, how it works in other countries and in Japan, and a simple rule: when you can say them and when you'd better not. And tell us the Japanese ones, too!
You don't have to speak: just say "preferisco ascoltare" (I'd rather listen). Questions are welcome.
We speak Italian slowly, mindful of those who are listening.
It does not replace a teacher: it is one more hour to actually speak, between one lesson and the next.
It lasts about an hour, but you are free to stay longer or leave earlier, as you prefer.
Every Wednesday, free to join.
The companion blog. "Swear words in Italy: why we say them": the reasons, the difference with Japan, the most common words with their polite alternatives, and the rule for using them. It is the material for this meeting.
